Planning for adulthood should focus on what matters most to the young person, including their hopes, interests and ambitions for the future. Families, education settings and professionals should work together with the young person to help them make informed choices and prepare for adult life.
Preparing for adulthood planning begins from Year 9 onwards. Whether a young person has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan or receives SEN Support, discussions and reviews should help them plan for their future and achieve the best possible outcomes in areas such as employment, independent living, good health, friendships and participation in their community.
