Some children and young people help care for a family member who has a disability, long-term health condition, mental health need, or additional needs. These children and young people are known as young carers.
Many young carers have a connection to SEND, for example by supporting a brother, sister or parent who needs extra help.
Being a young carer can be rewarding, but it can also have an impact on school, friendships and wellbeing. Support is available to help young carers manage their caring responsibilities and access opportunities to take part in activities, meet other young carers and get advice.
